James Tan Dinawanao

James Tan Dinawanao talks about macro photography, spiders and their eye placement.
Please introduce yourself and tell us how you got started into photography and into taking photographs of spiders specifically.

James Tan Dinawanao:
I started photography more than a year ago...
Late December 2010, to be exact..
The driving force that got me into photography, as I see it, is music...

Gerome:
 Who introduced you to photography?

I think it was my dad that introduced me to photography. He bought the first family camera back when I was still 5 or 7 years old. It was a point and shoot camera. It was the first that I saw how images of us were recorded.
The spiders. I just noticed that as my macro gallery grew. I had a lot of spider photos and through research in an attempt to identify them. I found them to be really fascinating.
For example, through my research I was able to know that some spiders have spinnerets but rarely spun any web… and that the arrangement of their eyes differ according to the specie.

Like the spiders from the salticidae family (jumping spiders)...

Their eyes are arranged that way because of the way they hunt. They hunt by watching and waiting to ambush they don’t set up web traps.
