Lhar Santillan Gil
I am a computer science graduate from the University of San Carlos, Cebu. Professional experiences include serving as a faculty member for the mathematics and computer science department as well as a web developer of the same university. I entered photography at around my 2nd year of teaching for the same university. It was out of necessity (need some documentation for the high school "mini" reunion) rather than a sudden surge of artistic juice. My first ILC (Interchangeable Lens Compact Camera) was the 1st generation NEX-5.

I learned my basic photography from nathaniel salang. batch 69. hihihihi. It is from him that I learned to  "be your worst critic!"

Nathaniel Salang

Nathaniel Salang talks about Sony Alpha Pilipinas and International or SAPI for short, his photography workshops and his Sony genes.

Gerome Soriano
ok let's start with SAPI

Nathaniel Salang
ok

Gerome Soriano
Sir Nathaniel Salang, please introduce yourself? What is your background? How did you got started on photography?

Nathaniel Salang
Background: I studied Philosophy at UP. I started out as a copywriter for a PR firm.
After that, my firends and I formed a Promotions and Events management company
In my PR and...., I was able to work with professional photographers.
When we were doing events, we worked with lots of female models.... these models submitted photos to us when they were applying for jobs. Many of the models were rejected outright because hey gave poor photos, even if they looked really good in person.
I decided that presenting good photos to my clients (decision makers) was key to making my life easier.
Just in time, somebody "pawned" his flim slr... very timely....I decided to study photography so i myself could be the one to take the pictures of models...... good photos ---> more models would get invited to interviews ----> less effort for me...
that's how it started.

NEXT.

I bought the film slr that was "pawned" to me, by the way... and I used it when I was studying photography
It was a Minolta 5xi

Nathan Hayag aka digitalpimp

Nathan Hayag aka digitalpimp and Nathan GH on Facebook talks about Thaipasum Festival, Infrared photography and Santan Flowers.

Gerome Soriano
Please introduce yourself? What is your background? How did you get started into photography?

Nathan GH
My name is Nathan Hayag. Known in the online photography world as digitalpimp. Living in Singapore and working in the healthcare industry. I'm also a photographer/contributor for Getty Images USA.

The best answer I can come up with on how I got started in photography is... PEER PRESSURE. A very good friend of mine literally forced me to get a camera and shoot with him. But I can't say I didn't put up a good fight. It took 6 months before I caved in and bought a Nikon D70s. He was also using a Nikon back then. In my head I thought it was absurd buying expensive lenses just to take stupid photos. I was like, "What can't my Sony Ericsson P990 do that these big expensive clunky cameras can??" We went around taking photos of... stuff. It was a photographic nightmare!

Gerome:
RAWR
So how did you got into photography?
Yer:
It was part of a college subject and my profession requires some photo documentation, but on the creative side of photography I started slowly from 1994 to 2003 at the Design Center Philippines in the CCP, under the tutelage of Ramon “Baby”Blanco - a purist-photographer. Ever since then Photography is a part of work but not the main work, designing is still my main work but i am enjoying the fact that there are only few of us in my line of profession who seem to be doing both!
Gerome:
How did the tutelage under Ramon 'Baby' Blanco go?

James Tan Dinawanao

James Tan Dinawanao talks about macro photography, spiders and their eye placement.
Please introduce yourself and tell us how you got started into photography and into taking photographs of spiders specifically.

James Tan Dinawanao:
I started photography more than a year ago...
Late December 2010, to be exact..
The driving force that got me into photography, as I see it, is music...

Gerome:
 Who introduced you to photography?

I think it was my dad that introduced me to photography. He bought the first family camera back when I was still 5 or 7 years old. It was a point and shoot camera. It was the first that I saw how images of us were recorded.
The spiders. I just noticed that as my macro gallery grew. I had a lot of spider photos and through research in an attempt to identify them. I found them to be really fascinating.
For example, through my research I was able to know that some spiders have spinnerets but rarely spun any web… and that the arrangement of their eyes differ according to the specie.

Like the spiders from the salticidae family (jumping spiders)...

Their eyes are arranged that way because of the way they hunt. They hunt by watching and waiting to ambush they don’t set up web traps.
